TAKS

TAKS Readiness and Core Knowledge is an interactive Web site launched by the University of Texas (UT) System in February 2004 - "It's not a practice test--it is a diagnostic tool, and not all students need to take it," Reyes said. "It's an online tool to help focus students on what they need to study to pass the exit-level tests."

Study Guides and Strategies - The Study Guides and Strategies web site is authored, maintained and supported by Joe Landsberger as an independent educational public service. Collaborative projects are developed across institutional and national boundaries. I resist advertising, registration, and distracting graphics or features with the intention of maximizing learner access.

Run-ons - Comma Splices - Fused Sentences - All are names given to compound sentences that are not punctuated correctly.

Fixing Comma Splices

Homophones, American English -  A Homophone is a "word pronounced the same as, but different in meaning from another, whether spelled the same or not." (bear, bare)

A Little Help with Capitals - This handout lists some guidelines for capitalization. If you have a question about whether a specific word should be capitalized that doesn't fit under one of these rules, try checking a dictionary to see if the word is capitalized there.

End Punctuation - A sentence should end with one of three punctuation marks: a period, a question mark, or an exclamation point. You should always leave two spaces after the punctuation mark that ends a sentence.
